Rushmoor Borough Council has extended the free parking offer in their car parks in North Camp until the beginning of next year to give local businesses a boost in the run up until Christmas.
The free all-day parking in Napier Gardens and free one hour parking in Peabody Road was first introduced in June 2023 to help businesses in and around Lynchford Road suffering from a loss of trade because of the construction of Hampshire County Council’s North Camp Accessibility Scheme.
As well as the free parking offer, the council also provided rate relief to businesses in Lynchford Road, which have been hit hardest, until this September, and ran a campaign on social media to remind people that North Camp remained firmly open for business.
Rushmoor Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Planning and Economy, Councillor Keith Dibble, said:
“Businesses in North Camp were hit hard by this long-running work and are still recovering from the financial effects of the loss of trade.
“It’s important that the council continues to support the fantastic variety of independent shops, cafes and businesses in North Camp, and we are happy to extend the free parking offer to help them over the most important trading time of the year, the run up to Christmas and New Year.
“Wherever they live in Rushmoor, I would encourage residents to try and shop locally and support our local businesses.”
Car parking charges in Peabody Road and Napier Gardens will be re-introduced on January 1.
Hampshire County Council re-introduced charges for on-street parking in North Camp at the start of August.
*In further good news for North Camp traders, new Christmas lights will be put up in Camp Road and Lynchford Road, thanks to support from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
