Passengers will now be able to enjoy a vibrant new art installation at Aldershot railway station after "All Aboard" was unveiled at a special ceremony.

The artwork, created by a University for the Creative Arts (UCA) graduate, is in the underpass between the platforms at the busy station, and is part of a collaborative project between UCA in Farnham, Rushmoor Borough Council, Network Rail, South Western Railway, and local signage company Reade Signs.

Created by Brianna Chartrand, a BA Illustration UCA graduate, the artwork depicts key heritage sites around Aldershot, including the Cenotaph in Municipal Gardens, Cambridge Military Hospital, and the Post Office building in the town centre. The design also features Nepali mandala patterns and poppies in tribute to Aldershot’s role as the Home of the British Army.

As well as enhancing the travel experience for commuters, the project also celebrates the recent opening of Polden Studios in September 2024, a new accommodation space for UCA students in the Union Yard development at the heart of Aldershot town centre, and the artwork reflects this partnership.

Rushmoor Borough Council's Town Centres Manager, Diane Highet, and Brand Marketing Manager at UCA, Claire Lowe, have worked closely with station staff and Reade Signs to bring the vibrant display to life.

Rushmoor Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Development and Economic Growth, Councillor Keith Dibble, said: "This is a wonderful example of how collaboration between local businesses, artists, and institutions can enhance the community and bring vibrancy to our public spaces.

“The ‘All-Aboard’ installation beautifully captures the essence of Aldershot's past and present, making it a fitting addition to the station and a source of pride for the community," he added.

Claire added: “We’re delighted to bring a burst of creativity from one of our talented graduates to a small pocket of Aldershot. We hope the vibrant visual celebration of the town will bring joy to commuters through the station.”

“All Aboard” can now be viewed at Aldershot Train Station. The project has been funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
