Throughout half-term week our Place Protection Officers (PPOs) are joining forces with local police officers to stop anyone seen cycling or using e-scooters in the pedestrianised areas of Farnborough town centre.

Following regular complaints to both the council and Hampshire Police, the aim of the operation is to stop and educate users, with enforcement action if required. This could be a formal warning or confiscation of an e-scooter, as a last resort, if the user refuses to co-operate.

Officers will also be working with security officers at Queensmead and Kingsmead shopping centres to tackle this issue.

It is prohibited by byelaw to cycle through any part of the pedestrianised area of Queensmead or in the shopping centres, and if caught, cyclists can be prosecuted and fined at magistrates’ court.

It is also illegal to use an e-scooter on public land anywhere in Rushmoor and police have powers to confiscate these.

Anyone who witnesses the dangerous use of e-scooters should report this immediately to the police on 101 with any details they have or via their website

Similarly, please report the dangerous use of bicycles in the town centre by calling us on 01252 398 399 during normal opening hours with any details you have.
