A total of 54 items of bulky waste were collected for free last week during a pioneering Walk This Waste trial along Mayfield Road, in Farnborough.

The Walk This Waste trial (previously called mega-skips) was part of a commitment by Rushmoor Borough Council to create clean, safe neighbourhoods and to help those without transport to dispose of waste items and reduce flytipping.

Mattresses, chairs, garden equipment, buggies, a sofa, a fridge, a door, an air conditioning unit, several televisions, a microwave and a scooter were all removed during the trial, which was used by 36 residents over the two mornings of the initiative.

The household bulky items were removed, sorted and then taken for disposal.

Rushmoor Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services, Councillor Becky Williams said: “We are delighted with the support we have seen from residents for our Walk This Waste service and we see this as a key part of our overall plan to reduce flytipping in Rushmoor so we can improve the quality of life for our residents.

“We want to increase pride in our borough, and having clean, safe and vibrant neighbourhoods is a huge part of that.

“We want to thank everyone who took up our offer to remove their bulky waste items for free, and following a full evaluation, we hope to run similar trials in other parts of our borough next year.”
